In high school I chose Multimedia, the reason why is because I believed that we need evolution in the way the technological world communicates with people. After three years I still believe that multimedia can join different areas we deal with every day. One of that areas is journalism, how amazing will be if we develop multimedia in a way we could have Journalism Revolution?
Most of us believe that we will be – somehow – replaced by machines in different work areas. The most efficient way to stop that from happen is to find a way where people and technology mix and the result is unbeatable. This revolution must show that machines without people can’t be great and that people without machines can’t deliver fast information.
The way multimedia and journalism work together bring online readers the sensation of being part of the article or the news they are reading. We have videos that make us feel close to reality and photos that make people cry and feel empathy for what is going on in the other side of the world. One of the most recent progresses was the possibility of watch videos and imagens posted on Facebook in 3D. Suddenly we are in the oceans’ bottom watching sharks or in the top of Everest, without moving from our chair. It’s easy now to explore the world, there are people who choose traveling and be there physically but not everybody has the same economic or healthy chance so multimedia mixed with different areas of journalism is providing a way to deliver information and knowledge to every single person.
As journalists we know that not always a picture is worth a thousand words but if we can mix pictures with words we will produce an amazing work, the same with video and audio, bringing news and opinion’s articles to life, recording political corruption or a funny mistake that a celebrity said. We are making the world of news immortal and at the same time it is coming like fast fashion – so much online reading and a huge lack of knowledge when we talk about people’s skills to choose true information or evaluate where it come from and if the sources are trusty. These are issues we need to focus if we want to continue grow fast information.
The decision I made in high school was helpful for me and for my future job as a journalist, I really wish that everybody look at the technology development as a different and dynamic work’s skill. Information is delivered faster than before and people keep receiving news from worldwide without a big effort. We shouldn’t be against the changes that are happening, instead we should take the opportunity to explore them and innovate how people will get information. Journalists do a great job investigating and working with words but the challenge now is how can the conciliate that with multimedia. The journalism’s future is big and maybe one day we can in fact see news and multimedia’s projection mixing – and art can be made.
